Obviously, this goes without saying - but this qualifying round was not a great success for Canada. They gained two points from six matches. They went the full group round without a win. Overall, they finished level on points with Suriname, although they did edge them on goal difference – a worthy accomplishment indeed. And yet, despite the ugly numbers, those who portray the campaign as five hundred and forty minutes of consecutive blunders are mistaken – less went wrong than most believe.

Enjoy yourself in St. Lucia!
I, like you, thought the campaign was likely over after the home game against Jamaica. I gave them one more match to prove me wrong and in the first 20 minutes against Honduras in Montreal I thought that this team might do something. Then things just basically fell apart.
One highlight of this campaign for me was the first 45 minutes against Mexico in Mexico. I think that was a very strong half defensively and the Mexicans looked very distressed going in at half-time.
